indigenous learning

When looking for information we turn to the news for it. But how do we know that information is a reliable source? After taking time to review and compare these two articles about mandatory indigenous credit classes in Canadian colleges we can see the differences between a reliable source and an unreliable source. For example the CBC I believe is a reliable source. With a good reputation for providing accurate news, they also have senior reporters that understand how to deliver it in a non objective way. They are straight to the point and only provide facts. Their purpose is only to inform and provide information. The second article I compared was the northernbublicaffairs article. If the CBC article had everything right about staying unbiased then the northernpublicaffairs did everything wrong. The northern public affairs author is a maskikow undergraduate making him give a biased opinion about the decisions being made at the school. Although stating the dangers of the new courses he ...

Schitt's Creek interview

I believe the Builds interview was better at expository communication because it provides more detail then the Today Show. One of the differences is how much time the interviewers had with the cast. The Builds interview was a half hour long giving plenty of time to provide detail to the audience while the Today Show only had about 5 minutes. The build kept the tone light but more matter of fact. The interviewer seemed to know a lot more detail about the show and the cast leaving the audience with a feeling that the information is reliable. The interviewer took time to do research about the cast anticipating their answers leading to other questions to provide new detail to the audience keeping them engaged in the interview. Even though the interviewer can work on body language and eye contact with the cast it left the cast with a feeling of ease ...

Reflective writing

This summer I decided to continue my education journey. Yesterday we started our first unit about the different kinds of communication. Before the class I had trouble communicating my thoughts and ideas effectively, whether it be stumbling on words or writing formal emails. Now using what I learned I can apply them in my job search, while applying, sending emails and phone interviews. I feel sometimes we can all get lost in the visual communication of social media and it's always good to explore the other options more. Instead of sending a text it might be nice to get a phone call or send letter invitations to parties instead of virtual ones. They are all different kinds of communication and we should use all of them. In hindsight I wish I started my classes sooner but I am happy for the opportunity to start now.
